Villa Emera offers a peaceful and home-like space for artistic and scientific work in Rome. We also organise cultural evenings at Villa Emera.

Our activities focus on fostering cross-cultural interactions, identifying relevant opportunities in Italy for our invited guests, and providing personalised mentoring. We customise the residency experience to suit the preferences of each participant. Send us your idea about a project and we’ll discuss it together!
We offer a wide range of consulting and production assistance. We can organise exhibitions and concerts, help find written sources and interviewees, translate texts, and act as fixers for filming or photoshoot arrangements. We have experience working with both Finnish media as well as collaborating with advertising photographers in Italy. Our expertise also includes curating and mentoring artistic and scientific work.
Residency
Villa Emera’s curator and founding member, visual artist Riikka Vainio, describes the residency’s operating principle as a “nomadic institute.” A key aspect of our operation is identifying a local partner, such as a gallery or foundation, that aligns with the needs of each residency guest. This ensures the creation of a dialogue with the local audience. Our homely approach offers residency participants an insight into Italian culture, while also helping the local audience gain a deeper understanding of the foreign artist’s work. Spontaneity, flexibility, and open dialogue are essential values in our operations.
The activities of Villa Emera are managed by the cultural association LUMI, registered in Italy. Since 2010, LUMI has been promoting cultural exchange between Finland and Italy by organising numerous exhibitions and concerts around Italy and Europe. One notable event was the Finnish contemporary art festival SUOMI INGORGO in Rome in 2019.
You can bring children or your spouse to the residence for short stays. If a family member or friend needs their own room, please inquire about availability since we often travel ourselves. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed to accommodate the allergies and sensitivities of our guests.
The primary rule of the residence is to respect the peace of other residents’ workspaces and cleanliness of common spaces.
The residency fee depends on the season, project and possible additional services.

Vacation in Rome
Feel free to inquire about our available rooms, even if you’re just a casual visitor to the city. As we frequently travel ourselves, there’s often space to accommodate guests. We offer rentals below Rome’s market prices, and for short visits, our primary selection criterion is that our guests are calm, friendly and able to operate respectfully in shared spaces.
The rate for a double room is 80 euros per night, including amenities such as sheets, towels, access to the kitchen, and internet usage.
Our charming premises are situated in a peaceful, secure, and well-maintained neighbourhood. The apartment is conveniently located just a brief stroll away from the Re di Roma metro station. From there, you can easily access the metro and reach the Spanish Steps in approximately 15 minutes. There are also numerous buses that stop nearby, offering access to various parts of the city. Additionally, the 4,000-hectare Caffarella Park is located nearby, offering a serene natural retreat. Within the vicinity, you’ll find delightful restaurants and shops. Despite its proximity to the historic centre, the area remains free from the overwhelming tourist crowds often encountered in Rome.

Our rooms are bright and spacious. We have a fast and reliable Wi-Fi and our thick walls ensure a quiet and tranquil working space. Each room is equipped with a double bed and a working desk. Our well-equipped and spacious kitchen serves as a meeting place as well as an additional working space for our guests.
